WHERE: 640 Cherry St, Del Norte, CO 81132, USA

WHEN: November, 17, 2022

NPS-DDP.org Donates Drone Kit To Sheriff’s Department, Del Norte, Colorado.

Their Request

“We are requesting a drone because we have a very high need for one. We are a smaller Sherriff’s Department but we do incorporate forest service lands and BLM lands along with 5 other law enforcement agencies within our jurisdiction. Our office covers any areas of law enforcement including but not limited to, Enforcing Laws, EM, Forrest Fires, Local fires BLM land Fires, Search and Rescue, interdictions, etc. Our agency has found a higher need for a FLIR drone due to foot chases, vehicle pursuits, surveillance, Possible Marijuana growth, etc. We have a very large Flux of individuals who visit our area for Hiking, Biking, Shooting, hunting, Camping, etc. This creates more use of a drone for search and rescue purposes. We also need a drone for investigation purposes for the overall documentation of an incident area. We also have three main highways within our jurisdiction and drug trafficking corridors which lead to more criminal activity in our area, in which a drone would be useful for surveillance. We also have the Rio Grande river which runs eastbound through the entirety of the County and is used heavily in the summertime by rafters, we have the use of drones in this situation as well as to search the river for missing persons along with possible flood waters. Within our jurisdiction are many areas that are not accessible by vehicle, especially during certain times of the year. The FLIR drones are a great help due to being able to detect the heat sources of individuals, Fires, etc. We have four different fire jurisdictions within our area along with the Law enforcement agencies in which we would assist when needed with a drone. There are many areas I can cover but are too long to list in the uses of a drone for our agency. Any help would be appreciated and would go a long way for the entirety of our community and surrounding areas. Thank You!”

“Eyes in the sky for every department in need"

Their Story

Colorado Center of Excellence for Advanced Technology Aerial Firefighting (CoE), a section within The Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control:

“We look to identify new drone technology to help firefighters do their job faster safer and more efficiently. Our mission is to drive technological advancements to improve firefighting practices and influence innovation across the public safety community. We have older drones that have been shelved and we are donating them to help public safety agencies through the National Public Safety Drone Donation Program. This department was one of the five departments that applied for a drone to NPS-DDP.org. We are helping support NPS-DDP.org’s mission to put “Eyes In The Sky For Every Department In Need ™.”

The National Public Safety Drone Donation Program:

“We are pleased to see companies of all types making donations in support of the NPS-DDP mission to help put “ Eyes In The Sky For Every Department In Need™” The generosity of these types of donations cannot be underestimated as this hardware provides life-saving value in the hands of those who work so hard to protect the communities they serve. Also, it provides a tremendous amount of economic benefit in saved man-hours. We encourage private citizens and any company including public safety to contact us to recycle any unused UAV back into service. If any of the drones that we receive are not suitable for public safety we have partnered with women and drones to donate these types of drones to STEM programs across the country to help benefit youth education.” Said Mark Langley CEO of NPS-DDP
